Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie

Hautes Gorges Park is managed for the Quebec government through SEPAQ, the Quebec Outdoor Establishments Corporation. Hautes Gorges Park is located in the Charlevoix tourist region and covers an area of 224 km². It is part of the core area of the Charlevoix World Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO). Founded in 2000, Hautes Gorges Park is one of the most beautiful natural monuments in Quebec. Nestled in a deep valley high in the mountains, the Malbaie River, where log driving was once practiced, offers a magnificent spectacle. You can admire the highest rock walls in Eastern Canada (700m). The Malbaie River offers all kinds of activities for outdoor enthusiasts, including riverboat cruises, canoeing, kayaking, rabaska canoeing, and canoe-camping. You can even go trout fishing.

Hautes Gorges National Park is best known for its hiking trails, which total approximately 25 km. One of these trails, the Acropole des Draveurs (4 hours), takes us to the highest peak in the area (over 1,000 m above sea level), dominated by arctic-alpine vegetation where caribou can sometimes be seen. Other trails along the river offer varied and easier distances. Mountain biking is even possible. Visitors can stay in the park at one of the 150 developed or rustic campsites. The Équerre sector, where the river forms a right angle, is one of the park's main attractions. It can be accessed by canoe, kayak, bicycle, or on foot.

Cars are not permitted inside the park. Parking is available at the entrance, and from there, you can take a 15-minute bus ride to the Érables Dam. The Lock is the starting point for most excursions.

The significant elevation changes, the beauty of the landscapes, and the winding course of the Malbaie River make this park an enchanting place that everyone will remember. Without a doubt, the Parc des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie is a must-see destination for lovers of nature and tranquility.
