Casino de Charlevoix
When the government gave Loto-Québec the mandate to open casinos, its main objectives were to create jobs, provide Quebec with additional world-class tourist facilities, generate an additional source of revenue for the government, and, finally, recover significant amounts of money gambled by Quebecers in casinos abroad. In 2009-2010, Quebec casinos generated $829.8 million in gaming revenue, 19% of which came from customers outside Quebec.
On June 24, 1994, the Casino de Charlevoix was inaugurated. It was housed in the former summer theater of the Manoir Richelieu, on the cliff of Pointe-au-Pic, a panoramic site frequented by vacationers for over a century. The Casino de Charlevoix quickly became a real economic driver for the region, where it is a must-see tourist attraction.
In 1998, Loto-Québec partnered with Canadian Pacific and the Fonds de solidarité FTQ to acquire the Manoir Richelieu (Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu), renovate it, and expand the Casino de Charlevoix. When it reopened in June 1999, the complex became a world-class resort. The Casino de Charlevoix thus became the first casino to be paired with a hotel. The Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu is a 405-room hotel with a conference room that can accommodate 1,000 people, a spa, a fitness center, two outdoor pools, and a 27-hole golf course. Although the economic benefits of the Casino de Charlevoix are evident for the Manoir Richelieu, the fact remains that many businesses, hotels, motels, B&Bs, chalets for rent, tourist residences, campgrounds, restaurants and boutiques that gravitate around it have seen their turnover increase since its arrival.
Connected by a tunnel to the renowned Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu hotel, the Casino de Charlevoix offers a unique gaming and entertainment experience in a warm atmosphere. It features approximately 950 slot machines, 5 Texas Hold'em poker tables, and about twenty tables offering the following games: grand prix poker, Caribbean poker, 3-card poker, Pai Gow poker, blackjack, roulette, mini-baccarat, and keno. To add to the entertainment, musicians perform at the Casino Bar every Friday and Saturday evening, creating a very friendly atmosphere. La Timonerie resto-bar offers delicious specialties from the Joe Smoked Meat restaurant. Guests benefit from parking adjacent to the Casino, as well as an underground passageway connected to the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu hotel. Access to the casino is reserved for persons 18 years of age and older.
